On Sunday evening with a group of friends we went to yet another magical Secret Cinema production. The organisers ask everyone to keep it hush hush so as not to ruin the experience for others who are going at a later date than you, so I'm not going to give you any clues as to what I saw because I more than recommend that you go and experience this yourself.

After purchasing your ticket you are sent a number of emails with information telling you where your meeting point will be on the evening as well as your dress code. It is all designed and written in character to the film that you will be seeing, but the actual name of the film is not disclosed until you are actually sat down at the event at the point where they show you the film. The particular group of friends I went with love dressing up and are secret film buffs so we get incredibly excited in the run up to the event going through our dressing up collections and lending each other any bits that we may not have or finally resorting to scouring the charity shops. These events are becoming more and more popular and on route to your designated meeting point I love trying to spot other people who you think are going to the Secret Cinema and which type of character they are from the plot. When you arrive at the meeting point, you are met by actors who direct you to the site specific set. This kind of theatre was made famous by Punchdrunk, who I also recommend you should go and see productions by.

On arriving, hundreds of actors who recreate the film as you stumble across the set perform around you and encourage you to engage as much or as little as you please. You can expect live music and DJs, food stalls and a impressive set decoration. And if you haven't guessed the film already when you are finally shown the film everything falls into place.
This is the second event that I have been to and before I went to the first I remember feeling a bit cheated as the ticket price is £35 and because it is all supposed to be secret you have no way of knowing if this is something that you are going to enjoy. But by the end of a 5 hour long evening jammed fill with fun things to explore, clues to figure out, role play, lots of foods to taste and a film that has been brought to life I didn't want it to end. You can find out the next dates of Secret Cinemas latest incarnation on their website here.
